Nuttuja Etiopiaan

Alkavalla viikolla Turussa voi viedä nuttuja seurakuntayhtymän taloon Eerikinkatu 3:ssa jokirannassa. Sieltä ne lähetetään yhdessä eteenpäin. Ajat: Ma 30.8. klo 14-16 ja ti 31.8. klo 16-18.

Beadwork course - Helmityökurssilla

In July I attended a beadwork course. I really loved it. We worked on bead projects from 8.30 in the morning often until 10 PM! I had never done that kind of beadwork, so it was great.

Here a few of the things I made. The white necklace I wore to my daughter's wedding.

Olin heinäkuussa helmityökurssilla Kankaanpään opistossa. Kurssin kouluttajana oli Riikka Santonen, jolla on Helmimeri-niminen liike Tampereella. Nautin kurssista valtavasti. Teimme helmitöitä aamusta klo 8.30 usein lähes kymmeneen asti illalla.

Tässä joitakin kuvia tekemistäni töistä. Valkoista kaulakorua käytin tyttäreni häissä.

Wedding place cards

All summer I have been too busy to post but hope to get back to it now. My daughter's wedding was a couple of weeks ago. That kept me busy. One of the things I made were the place cards. They were tied to the glasses.

Aluksi 6 ketjusilmukkaa, renkaaksi piilosilmukalla.
Chain 6, join with slip stich.



Renkaaseen 8 kiinteää silmukkaa.
8 single crochet into the ring.



Terälehdet luodaan venytetyillä silmukoilla. Venytä silmukat niin pitkiksi kuinka isoja terälehtiä haluat. Langankierto koukulle ennenkuin vedät seuraavan langan alla olevan kiinteän silmukan läpi.
The flower petals are crocheted using stretched stiches. Stretch them to the length of the size of petals you want. Yarn over hook before making the next stich through the single crochet stich below.




Tähän kukkaan 3 langankiertoa ja 3 silmukkaa.
I used 3 times yarn over hook + 3 stiches for my flower.



Kiinnitä lankalenkit yhdellä kiinteällä silmukalla.
Attach the loops with a single crochet stich.



Niin monta ketjusilmukkaa, että ketju on yhtä korkea kuin lankalenkit. Tässä 5 kjs.
Chain enough to make a chain the same length as your loops. I needed 5.



Kiinteä silmukka terälehden viereen. Jatka seuraavasta silmukasta uusi terälehti vetämällä lanka taas lenkiksi.
A single crochet stitch into the stich at the base of the petal. Continue by making a new petal into the next stitch.



Jatka samalla tavoin rengas täyteen terälehtiä.
Continue until you have enough petals to fill the ring.



Päättele langat. Valmis :)
Finish off threads. Done :)

Today I finished another cardigan for my now 5-month-old granddaughter. Here it is:

Basket out of postcards - Kori postikorteista

When I was a child my mother always made little house-shaped baskets out of postcards. Each child had their own baskets for keeping all sorts of small things in. I am member of Postcrossing and therefore have loads of postcards. I decided to start using some of them for making baskets, and here is the first one finished:





The house basket requires 14 postcards of the same size. Here a couple of photos of the work process:

C-cassettes, popcorn stich and granny squares

Since Christmas haven't got much done but wanted to add something here. I'm trying a new thing: crocheting of c-cassette tapes. A friend gave me piles of old tapes and I took the reels out of them all. Sofar have only tried a bit but already noticed that the material goes well for lace crochet. Now need to think what to use it for.



Also knitted a wool bolero for myself, using what seems to be called a popcorn stich.





When I'm not making other things I continue on my colourful granny square bedspread. One day I will finish it! Here's where I am at the moment:



A knitted top for my niece's 1st birthday:

Knitted mini-doll, neulottu mininukke

When I was a child and teenager I made loads of these dolls. Now this one is to hang on my granddaughter's pram or bouncy. She loves looking at colourful things. It is very easy to make and you could add things like buttons or hair to it.

Videotape crochet bag - videonauhasta virkattu kassi

Finished a shopping bag for my Mum. It is crocheted out of videotape. Made in a very simple way with double crochet. Also the handles are crocheted, they are very long, reach to more than half way down the sides and sewn on very securely.

Quick crochet scarf - nopeasti virkattu huivi

I made several scarfs like this for Christmas presents. It is very easy crochet in chunky wool, using crochet needle size 8 mm. Feels lovely, soft and warm. I used Novita Teddy.

This is how:

• Chain 20 + 4 for turning (makes a scarf 25 cm wide)
• Treble to 5th stitch from hook, *1 ch, skip 1, 1 treble*, repeat until end of row
  
• *chain 3, 1 double crochet into loop*, repeat unti end of rown, turn
• Continue until your scarf is long enough, mine is 140 cm.

Knit video tape - Neulo videonauhaa

Most of us have lots of video tapes we are no longer using. Open the casing with a screwdriver and take the tape reels out. There are many things that can be made when you knit, crochet or weave the tape. I'm making a rug for the bathroom using tape. If you think that too rough for your feet, use the rug at your entrance - or make a bag out of it.

I use hollow plastic needles metric size 10 (thickness of my little finger) and just knit back and forth, using the tape and coloured linen thread at the same time.

Knitted baby mittens - vauvan lapaset

I knitted the cuffs on smaller needles, knit 2, purl 2, so the mittens stay on better. 24 stiches, I knitted round on 4+1 needles.

Ranneosa on neulottu pienemmillä puikoilla, että siitä tulee tiukempi. 24 s.

Crochet toys for baby mobile

Recently I brought this baby mobile as a present for my new granddaughter. The hanging animals are fixed with velcro, so I decided to crochet alternative toys to hang on the mobile. Here they are, each have a string attached to a bit of velcro at the back.

Each figure is made of two circles of about 9 cm in double crochet (single crochet in American terms) and I crocheted them together from the edges, putting some wadding inside. The mouth is sewn on, the eyes small crochet circles sewn on. After the middle bits were finished I added various kinds of petals and frills to them.

The curly bits on the bottom right flower are done like this:
make a starting chain about 3 times the length you want the frill to be. Crochet back on it by making two double crochet stiches (single crochet if American) in each chain stitch. When you are finished you still need to curl it around your finger so it becomes even.
